Title: Lost Expressions in 2010b Template?
Post by: tcblancer on June 21, 2011, 07:57:42 PM
I have noticed that the VDL 2.5.2 Finale 2010b templates seem to be missing certain "Expression Options" in the Expression Tool menu. The "automatic rehearsal marks" functions are missing from the "Rehearsal Marks" menu and the "cresc" and "decresc" texts (which affect playback) are missing from the "Expressive Texts" menu. These are functions that I use very regularly, so I would love any input on why they are conspicuously missing from the 2010b template, or better yet, is it possible to "get them back?"
Thanks

None of the Finale supplied text expressions were changed in creating the VDL templates. I will check just verify. In the interim, you could reload the original text expression library.

OK,

I've had an opportunity to check the 2010b templates and those expressions are in fact missing. As I said previously, they were not removed on purpose but they can be added back.

Create a new file, not from the templates obviously, using only 1 instrument. I did this using just a piano. Check to make certain that the expressions are available, then from the File Menu choose SAVE LIBRARY. In the dialog box check Text Expressions, you can then name the library so as to better identify it from the others in the library folder. Continue to complete the steps for saving a library.

Once this is completed you may then open the VDL templates or just the file you are currently working with. This time from the File Menu, choose LOAD LIBRARY and select the Library file you just created. There will be duplicate expression categories. The duplicate categories, from the new library, can be deleted. There are a number of possible ways to clean up the Expressions window which I can explain if you'd like to know.

Thanks for bringing this to my attentions. I'll check the 2011 templates as well as the 2012 templates as they are developed.
