Topic: VDL Template 6.0b setup in Sibelius 7

TWS edit: split topic

So I opened up the 6.0b template in Sib7.1

I still can't get Concert Band Combo to consistently work or Cym. Rack combo. When I first open it up everything seems to playback correctly. When I go to input it changes to Rack combo A for Concert Band Combo and Metal Combo for Cymbal Rack Combo.

In the Mixer window when I check the tab to change the instrument on either one Cymbal Rack Combo and Concert Band Combo is not there.

When I open the tab for the K5 player I can manually go in and insert either voce into that channel but it doesn't use it when I playback or input to Sib 7.

Another strange message that I see in the K5 window is the following:

"Library Content not found. Click Locate to set the content"

If I go to the VDL portion in the K5 player all the instruments are there and are loaded in the player.

Is the library in the wrong location hence the Concert Band Combo and Cymbal Rack Combo not able to play in Sib7? If so I'm confused how all the other library sounds function.

Before we take a look at your Playback Configuration and Mixer, we need to make sure that KP5 is loading everything correctly in stand alone mode. Are the error messages still there when KP5 is in stand alone?

If you can, please attach screen shots, that would help me out a lot.

When I run K5 as a stand alone no sounds play.
I can see it on the K5 meter for that voice but no sound.

Thanks for the pics, let's see if I can make sense of it all.

The images you posted showing KP5 look like they're from one of your instances running inside of Sibelius. Please make sure you're doing the following in stand alone mode.

The first image shows that you are in fact using the VDL 2.5.2 update. Good there. Between that image and the second, I'd remove the libraries that are "grayed out". For each of those, click on the phat asterisk looking thingy and select "Remove library" (first image I attached). If you do indeed need to add any of those back, we can do it later.

The image showing the contents of the "Instruments" folder doesn't tell me much - what is there looks correct though. Go up one level and show me what's in that folder. I attached an image of what mine looks like. The main items that need to be here are: 1) Instruments folder (where you just came from), 2) the four NKX files. You'll more than likely see other stuff there too, but these are the most important ones. This directory can also be located anywhere you choose, you just have to tell KP where to look.

Now, close KP5 if it isn't, then launch it. Load a few patches into it and see if you can sample the sounds. If you can hear them, then we'll move on to the Playback Configuration, etcetera.

One more thing I'll throw at you now is to make sure your Mixer has all of its instruments set to (Auto), both the device and assigned patch for each one. You'll see parenthesis around them when they are set that way. See third attached image. (Hmmm, that image just might find its way into the Readme.)

Thanks for the reply.
I attached an image of the folder that you asked for.

I removed the grayed out libraries. I closed K5 then loaded a patch. It still doesn't play any sound but still shows it on the meter as producing a sound. Again, it plays back fine when Sibelius is using it.

As far as the mixer window goes, I have only tried to change away from using auto whenever it is not loading the Concert band Rack or Cymbal Rack.

It's really weird that K5 won't playback as a stand alone. I checked all the output settings that worked with K4 or earlier and it's the same. I fell like it's not routing out to the external speakers, which I think it would since that's how I have as a default for everything on the Mac.

I just tried K4 as a stand alone and it doesn't playback either.

I'm going to check K2 and 3 to see the settings.

Had to go to K2 to get stand alone playback to work and check settings to compare to K4 or K5. All the settings are the same. I attached those here.

Maybe I should have asked for your Playback Configuration sooner, even though I thought the problem was elsewhere. My bad.

You need to assign "VDL SoundSet 6.0b" to all of your instances of KP5 that facilitate VDL. You currently have the one labeled "Virtual Drumline 2.5" assigned. This is why the Cymbal and Concert Band Combos are not being loaded; that sound set does not have the pertinent information that is required to do so. Again, make sure to assign VDL SoundSet 6.0b.

If the 6.0b sound set is not available to choose from in the drop down list, it means you haven't copied it from the template package and into the user's Sounds folder. For you that would be at (others can view the list here):

    /Users/your username/Library/Application Support/Avid/Sibelius 7/Sounds

Hope that gets it. Let me know.
