Here's the deal...

After finishing last year's show I updated my laptop to Windows 10.

Reinstalled Finale 2011 (it's the most current version I have for now)

Reinstalled Kontakt 2 and 5.

Reinstalled NI Service Center (the most current version will not connect to the internet to initiate set up.  I had to install an older version and now it's fine)

Reinstalled VDL 2.5

Loaded VDL into Kontakt 5 and also into Kontakt 2.

Activated VDL in the older version of NI Service Center

Copied KontaktPlayer2.dll and KontaktPlayer5.dll and pasted them in
User>"User name" folder> App Data> Roaming> Make Music> Finale 2011> VTS Support

The problem now is that when I start Finale 2011 it crashes.  When I finally get it to start up, it doesn't show any version of Kontakt as a Plug in.  I go to MIDI setup and it shows both Kontakt 2 and 5 as inactive Plugins.  I selected them and clicked "make active" and I get a message that says something to the effect of "making this plug-in active caused Finale 2011 to crash upon start up.  Do you want to make this plug-in active again?"

If I select any of the inactive Kontakt plug-ins to activate them it causes Finale to crash.

Is this an issue with Windows 10?
Did I copy and paste incorrectly?
Does it have something to do with Program Files vs. Program Files (x86)?
Please for the love of humanity, help!

My first guess would be that it is a problem between Kontakt/NI and Win10. There may also be an issue between Finale 2011 and Win10. I'd check with both NI and Finale to verify support for Win10. Also, I'd suggest upgrading Finale and VDL.

I recently purchased Finale 2014 and updated to 2014.5
I have Kontakt 5 installed.
I have Virtual Drumline 2.5.5 installed
I have NI Service Center installed.
I have installed the Finale 2014 template from The Write Score but I have not opened or moved any files for these yet.

NI SC, Kontakt, and VDL are all installed and working properly.

My next move after purchasing and downloading TWC templates for Finale was to get Finale 2014.5 to recognize Kontakt 5 as a plug-in.  I have now run into the same problem I had when I was running the older version of Finale (2011).

I can not get Kontakt loaded into Finale as a Plug-in. I have followed all of the instructions for moving the Kontakt .dll file to the Finale VTS folder. I have sought help on Tapspace, Kontakt, and The Write Score all to no avail.

All of the help files and post I have found spell out how to install the Kontakt .dll files in the correct folder. They don't offer Windows 10 specific help (if that is in fact the issue).

Please advise.

Check out this link to the Native Instruments Knowledge Base. It says "Sequencer" but the concepts are the same for a notation application.

Got it fixed!

Set up a help ticket with MakeMusic and they told me that I did everything correctly except that I copied the 64-bit .dll files and I needed to delete those form Finale's VTS folder and replace them with the 32-bit .dll files.

This fixed everything.

Now on to other issues.  I installed the recently purchased TWS 2014 template I have it loaded and everything works except for the drumline parts.

I hear the correct sounds but the notation looks incorrect (notation has orange note heads and they are in the wrong place).  I've had this issue in the past using 2011 and I corrected it by selecting the staff, right clicking and going to define staff styles to VDL 2.5.5 snare line manual MW.  I also did this with the tenor & bass staffs where I could reset note head assignments (shot drums, & bass drum assignments)

The 2014.5 format is similar to 2011 but there are a lot of the same things that have been put in other places.

Either way, I'm still stuck.  Any ideas on how to correct this?

I found Score Manager>Notation Style but when I select the options for the staff, I see all the correct instruments selected per drumline staff (Snareline Manual MW etc.) but it says VDL 2.5 not VDL 2.5.5

If this is the issue, how do I solve it?  If not where do I go from here?

This is the way it should appear. Using the Staff Styles in Finale 2011 was not the best way. Using the Score Manager is standard.

Fixed it!  By searching other posts and rereading the readme.pdf that came with the template I found that Percussion Midi maps was hidden.  I had to select custom view and I selected the correct instrument assignments from 2.5.5

Thanks for the speedy reply and for all of your help!
