Topic: File location on Mac?

superfen

After being a PC guy since my first computer as a kid in the 80s, I decided to make the jump to Mac, and just purchased a brand new Macbook with the latest OS.  I was able to get Finale 2014.5 up and running, as well as get VDL downloaded.

After downloading the VDL template for Finale 2014 from TWS, I cannot find the Finale library folder.  I remember this happening on my PC as well, and was able to figure out how to unhide folders, and was good to go.  After an hour of research last night (remember I'm new to Macs) I thought I had it figured out when I was able to unhide folders in the "finder" by typing commands into the terminal.   But, after getting as far as ~library/application support/makemusic/finale2014.5, there is no folder named library.  Ive run searches at every level for "library" and .lib files, and nothing.  I know it has to exist somewhere, because the Finale program seems to be functioning fine.

I have searched and read some threads here, on the makemusic forum, and the tapspace forum, and haven't found anything that has worked.  Im probably missing something obvious, but for now its frustrating - I can't put the files purchased from the Write Score in the correct folders because as of right now, they are unable to be accessed on my machine.

Any thoughts or advice would GREATLY be appreciated :)

Thanks!

The hidden Library folder refers to the one found on the Root and User levels. When you double click your hard drive, you should see several folders such as Applications, Documents, Library, System, and Users. The Library folder at this level should be visible. If you double click the Users folder and then your User Folder (looks like a house icon), you may see a Library folder. If it's not visible, you can make it visible.

In one or both of theses Library folders you will find the Finale folders. This part it looks as if you have figured out with research. I'd first check the Root (Hard Drive) Library first to see if it's in that location. If it is there, then go ahead and install the template files in the appropriate Finale folders. If the Finale Libraries folder is not in the Users Library location but is in the Hard Drive Library location, you can copy/paste the Finale Libraries folder from one location to the other without issues.

Also, in any case once you have installed the files you can then use the Finale Preferences you tell Finale where you look when files are requested. This way when you select New>From Templates it will look in the location you previously set.

Perfect!!!  And there it is!

Thank you so much for your fast response. Haven't loaded the files in yet, but the folder was exactly where you described it (the HD - I had been starting at my user level, hence my problem).  I think I'm getting close!!!

Glad to hear. Remember you can copy the Finale Library file to the same location in your User Folder and to set Finale preferences.
