Topic: Sibelius Ultimate Note Input

drumzx

Good morning Hugh, it's been a while since I've been in the forum.

I recently updated my laptop to Sibelius 2022.12.  In my first attempt to work on a percussion score (for indoor), I encountered an issue when using my M-Audio 88es keystation for entering notes.  For example, when I entered notes for tenor drums (drum 2), the note head placement and designation ended up in the F space of the scale (with a "shot" designation).

When I looked at Kontakt Player, I can see the VDL designation on the left side of the window AND scrolling down on the right side, the battery instruments are loaded as well.  And I checked to make sure the .xml was loaded (attached).  What am I missing?

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve

The template sound set file looks like it's in the right place. Do you have the correct sound set assigned in your Playback Configuration? Go ahead and attach a screenshot of it.

Another thing could be the communication between Sibelius and the input keyboard. Been a while, but i've seen that get messed up. Not sure how to go about resetting that though, especially on Windows.

Let me know.

Good to hear from you Hugh!

Attached is what I think you're asking?

Not exactly sure what happened.  Everything was working in the fall which again makes me think it was the new Sibelius update/M-Audio keyboard back then.  I guess I could disconnect the board and reconnect it with the hope that it would self-correct if you think that would be functional.

The wrong sound set is applied to the Kontakt instance. It needs to be "VDL SoundSet 7.0a". Swap that out, then give it a go.

Made that change. . .something else is wrong.  Here's another screenshot.  Our band director sent the score with pit instrumentation and I think he thought he was choosing the correct battery instruments.  I'm not seeing the 7.0a instruments.

Hugh,

I don't think he used the template I asked him use when arranging pit parts for indoor.  Given that, I'm not sure the score he used can be converted.  I think I'm going to have to use the template, copy and paste and then go from there.  If I'm incorrect, let me know.

Thanks for all of your help so far!

Does he have a license to use the Template?

If it's just pitched instruments, you should be able to copy/paste from one score to another without messing things up. If unpitched instruments are at play, those will need to be entered manually since i'm sure all the noteheads will not match at all. (Go ahead and experiment with copy/paste of the unpitched, see what happens. i'd be curious to see before and after files. ;) )

Be sure to backup/make copies of files before doing anything.
